Now Connecticut lawyers are watching to see if the case breaks new ground in state tort law. The plaintiff is seeking million in damages, and her lawyers argue that the chimpanzee’s former owner is strictly liable for owning a wild animal, and that she was negligent and reckless for doing so. But the attorney representing the former owner says strict liability doesn’t apply.
